How is life coaching different from therapy?
The fundamentals of life coaching are what distinguish it from therapy. A life coach does not diagnose, while therapists determine illnesses, so they may be clinically treated. Therapists analyze their client’s past as a tool for understanding present behaviors, whereas life coaches simply identify and describe current problematic behaviors, so the client can work to modify them. In other words, therapists focus on “why” and coaches work on “how”. Therapists help clients explore and understand their subconscious and unconscious mind. Their goal in this exploration is deep understanding. Life coaches focus on results and actions. Their goals can be measured with key performance indicators and specific behavioral outcomes and goals. Despite occasional areas of overlap, however, the work and processes of therapists and life coaches are distinct.
How long will I need a life coach?
Every client and situation is unique. Some clients are able to set to work immediately and make changes, while others take time to find clarity. That being said most coaches typically recommend at least one year of coaching. The first quarter or so of the sessions are used to identify limiting beliefs. The next three to six months are used to develop patterns to overcome those limiting beliefs. Thereafter the coach will help you with tools to make those patterns second nature, part of your regular habits that you practice on a daily basis.

Some of the biggest myths, self, and organizationally limiting beliefs I find, when working with business owners and executives start like this, “If I want it done right, I…” a) must do it myself b) tell/show/demand my team exactly how to do it c) can let them do it but manage every single detail of the process and d) all of the above. How long do I need a career coach?
Every client and situation is unique. Some clients are able to identify their path relatively quickly while others might need a bit more time to delve into and examine areas of their life impacting their work (or visa versa). It really depends on your goals and underlying needs. We can also do spot coaching quick sessions, to prep for interviews or promotions.
